Hankinson Group has an impressive history spanning back to 1975 and is now one of the largest independent painting and property service contractors in Britain. Having worked in partnership with Wirral Met for over 30 years on apprenticeship programmes, Hankinson Group has provided many young people from the local area with valuable sector skills and career opportunities.

In addition to providing young people with a route into permanent employment through apprenticeships with Wirral Met, Hankinson Group has also worked with the College on succession planning for their own staff, providing part-time Continuing Professional Development courses to aid in the business’ growth.

John Invernizzi, Painting & Decorating Lecturer, started his journey with Wirral Met in 1985 as an apprentice with Hankinson Group. After working with the employer, John moved back to the College to become a lecturer, training young people and providing them with the very skills he acquired here 35 years ago.

Deanna Robinson, who is currently on a level 2 Painting and Decorating Apprenticeship with Hankinson Group, was presented with "Apprentice of the Year" and "Young Painter of the Year" awards at Wirral Met's Further Education Awards in 2019, recognising her achievements.  Deanna is continuing to work hard to progress her career in the industry.

In an effort to inspire the College’s Painting and Decorating students to progress their careers within the industry, Hankinson Group employees come in to College to speak to students about their career options, providing a valuable insight into their own journeys and how they have progressed from apprenticeships into full-time employment and where they are now in their careers.

Jeremy Hankinson, Business Development Manager at Hankinson Group said: “Our partnership with Wirral Met has provided us with some really motivated apprentices who are willing to learn and gain more skills. This has also benefited our staff as the apprentices have brought enthusiasm into the workplace and they have enjoyed passing on their knowledge of the industry. We have also benefited by one of the apprentices winning an award which has motivated not just the other apprentices but all of the staff.”
