For the past three years BA Fine Art students from Wirral Metropolitan College have been invited to design trophies for the Chemicals Northwest Annual Awards. Working on ‘live’ projects and alongside colleagues from the world of work is a key aim of the course. This type of project provides the opportunity for our students to focus their creative abilities and develop the collaborative and time management skills essential to their professional development.

Previous trophies have been very sculptural so this year’s designs have focussed on setting a vibrant, energetic and dynamic context for the awards and the award winners. Each of the plaques feature hexagonal designs, the colours of which are derived from the artwork in the background. There are eleven categories this year, so following discussions with the design group it was decided to keep the designs very individual but to establish an overall look.

Wirral Metropolitan students (L-R) John Rothwell, Leanne Hughes and Emily Blastock discuss which designs should be used for each of this year’s eleven awards.
